Messy bedside commodes

I know noone is here for now but I'm reaching out to see if anyone has experience or suggestions for a growing issue with my aging parents. They both use a basic bedside commode, but lately, more and more messes are ending up under the commode, it's becoming a daily cleanup struggle, and I'm worried about hygiene, smell, and of course, their dignity. I've seen other commode models on Amazon that look like they might be more spill proof or easier to clean, but it's hard to know what actually works until you try it. Some have splash guards, wider bases, or different bucket designs, but reviews are all over the place, ideas about a particular commode that really helps reduce messes underneath? Are there any practical hacks or add ons (like absorbent mats or DIY splash shields) that have made a difference for you?

Make sure the commode is stable, as seniors may unintentionally rely on it for support similar to a walker, which leads to instability. It may be more beneficial to visit a medical supply store to evaluate different models in person, then use a tool like Google Lens to compare prices and availabilities from trusted suppliers. While purchasing through larger platforms like Amazon and eBay may offer convenience, supporting local or specialized retailers can help sustain businesses that rely on in person sales and specialized customer service, plus you get to actually see what youre buying.

I couldn't agree more, having a sense of stability is so important. And honestly, seeing all the options up close really makes a world of difference, doesn't it? I think it's such a smart idea to check and compare prices afterward. It just helps you make a much better decision

My go to solution was using highly absorbent, waterproof pads designed for bed use.
I would lay one under the entire commode. It made cleanup so much easier, you could just fold it up and toss it out.
For a more direct solution, some commodes have a built in splash guard or 'p-guard' accessory that can be a game changer. Try to find one of those with great reviews
